How to use media to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) among young women?

SRHR and Feminist Media 101 for Young Women

FemmeLab is currently developing a module that will integrate Feminist Media into sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) advocacy among young women, 18 to 24 years old.

Guided by a pleasure-centered approach, the module seeks to raise the consciousness of young participants in SRHR as a positive aspect of their lives. This is in contrast to the current bias to risk-based approaches in SRHR advocacy that further contributes to the fear, insecurity, stigma, and shame around young women’s sexuality. At the same time, the participants will be coached in the production of creative media products that will showcase their aspirations in relation to SRHR.

The module was developed with the support of the SRHR Conversations through Arts project of the UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies under the OXFAM SHE initiative. The design of the course was guided by the overall objective of the project, that is, to foster a broader, deeper, and holistic understanding of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), particularly key concepts such as gender-based violence (GBV) and women’s bodily autonomy in women and men.

Pilot implementation is scheduled to start on on August 2021. Stay tuned for updates.
