How do we produce gender and SOGIE-responsive media?

Gender, SOGIE, and Media Production Webinars

In 2020, FemmeLab co-produced three webinars that aim to examine and show how media practitioners and artists make their work more responsive to the interests of women and LGBTQI individuals. In designing the program for the webinars, we encouraged the speakers to share their gender- and SOGIE-responsive practices, and to situate their experiences as women, men, and LGBTQI individuals working in mainstream media and in the art world.

In Women, Gender, and Film, renowned filmmakers Antoinette Jadaone, Samantha Lee, and Sigrid Andrea Bernardo discussed how their work contributed to the changing perceptions on women and gender issues.

In Constructing LGBTQI Narratives, journalists Chang Casal, Jervis Manahan, and Pau Villanueva shared their practices in affirming the identities and narratives of LGBTQI+ individuals.

In Telling Women’s Stories with Care, feminist artist Nikki Luna presented contentious issues in the use of women as art subjects and ways to incorporate the value of care as an alternative paradigm in telling women’s stories.

These webinars attracted over 300 participants, who actively joined the conversation during the open forum.
